Eyes on Me Celebrates New Trade Skills Program Facility in Brookshire

On August 1, local nonprofit Eyes on Me, Inc. held a celebration and dedication for its new trade skills program building adjacent to The Hangar Unity Center at 4010 Fourth Street in Brookshire.

The expanded facility has been a dream since 2017, according to Eyes on Me Executive Director Dennis Turnipseed. Original plans were derailed by Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent use of the complex as a staging center for recovery supplies being transported throughout the Houston area.

The trades program originally began in a small building behind The Hangar. The new facility will provide space for training programs designed to teach valuable job skills and prepare participants for employment opportunities.

Brookshire Mayor Robert Richards shared that he began his professional career after receiving training at a facility similar to the one now available at The Hangar. That training helped launch his long and successful career with METRO.

The traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony took an unusual turn when it became a “sawhorse cutting,” led by Omar Garcia, Missions Pastor at Kingsland Baptist Church of Katy, and Kingsland Senior Pastor Ryan Rush.

“Today, we are offering pastors with power tools,” Turnipseed said as he introduced the duo.

The new facility represents an important step forward for Eyes on Me and its commitment to providing individuals with practical skills and opportunities to build successful careers.
